An introduction to the American cuisine

American cuisine

The very first thought that strikes your mind after you think of American cuisine is the burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, pancakes, etc. American cuisine also has influences from other places such as Italian, German, British, Dutch, French, and also the Caribbean so it is very complicated to define. Some of the ingredients in any of the American foods are chicken, wheat, corn, and bread. The most popular food of all time are hotdogs,        pot pies, hamburgers, etc.

NORTHEASTERN DISHES

This region offers an abundance of seafood dishes, as its geographical location is near the Atlantic ocean. Lobsters and clams are mostly used in dishes such as lobster roll and clam chowder.

SOUTHERN DISHES

Meanwhile, the southern part has dishes with heavy flavours along with frying and barbecuing. Some dishes like barbecued meat, fried chicken, and bread pudding are some famous southern staples.

MIDWESTERN DISHES

This part is known as the breadbasket of America. It is the centre for grain production mostly of wheat, soy, and corn. The famous midwestern dishes like bread pudding, Chicago deep-dish pizza and pork tenderloin sandwiches are the satisfying and hearty meals.

Some of the popular traditional American dishes are as follows-

  1. Buffalo chicken wings

These fried chicken wings are doused in a cayenne-vinegar hot sauce which is a buffalo sauce.

  1. Tater tots

These are grated potato mini balls that are cylindrical in shape and are fried with a crispy exterior.

  1. Hot dogs

It is a steamed or grilled food that consists of a sausage that is covered in a slit of a partially sliced bun.

  1. Apple pie

Apple pie is a pie in which the major ingredient is apple. This is usually served with either whipped cream or ice cream or cheddar cheese.

  1. Barbeque ribs

Barbequing food is one of the traditions of the country and now it has become an art which has many lovers in the country as well as across the globe.

  1. Reuben sandwich

A Reuben sandwich consists of corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, etc between the slices of rye bread which is grilled until the bread becomes crispy and the cheese melts fully.

  1. Grits

It is a classic dish made from coarsely grounded corn kernels. Grits can be greatly versatile.

          A hamburger is basically a food item that has a beef patty in form of a disc which is sandwiched between the two slices of bread.
